Mar 21, 2009: Well, we lost the Jazz Factory weekly gig. The restaurant has closed, and the owners have moved to Portland to open a restaurant there.
But there’s still plenty going on. The Rocket City Jazz Orchestra is playing for a fundraising event in Birmingham in which Queen Latifah is the headliner. $600 will get you in at the Alys Stephens Center for the Viva Health Starlight Gala on Saturday April 4.
I’m playing for ten performances of Footloose in April at Huntsville High School.
The big band is playing in Decatur’s park series, the Paul Stroud Concerts by the River at Rhodes Ferry Park, on Monday, May 18 at 7:00, for free. Free is better than $600, don’t you think?
I’m playing for Urinetown again, this time at Renaissance Theater the last week of July. If you’re not familiar with the show, don’t be put off by the name. It’s a silly show that pokes some fun at other shows.
The big band actually has one confirmed booking for 2010 already.
Hope to see you!
